Иванов день отмечается 1 ноября 2024 года (19 октября – дата по старому стилю). В церковном календаре это дата перенесения мощей преподобного Иоанна Рыльского.
Святой родился в конце IX века в селе Скрино (Болгария). Он рано осиротел. Чтобы выжить, начал работать пастухом. В один из дней он не уследил за стадом, и от него отбились корова с теленком. Узнав об этом, хозяин стада избил маленького пастуха. Вытерпев все побои, Иоанн начал молиться. Он молился так усердно, что пропавшие животные нашлись. Взяв теленка на руки, мальчик перенес его по реке, как по земле, и вернул хозяину. За возвращение животных он был щедро вознагражден.
После этого случая Иоанн не захотел больше работать пастухом. Он решил податься в монастырь и принять постриг. Став послушником, научился читать, писать и начал изучать духовную литературу. После посвящения в иноки поселился в лесу и стал вести отшельнический образ жизни. Однажды на его хижину напали разбойники, и Иоанн сменил ее на пещеру, где и прожил в молитвах и постах 12 лет.

Midsummer Day is celebrated on November 1, 2024 (October 19 is the date according to the old style). In the church calendar, this is the date of the transfer of the relics of St. John of Rila.
The saint was born at the end of the IX century in the village of Skrino (Bulgaria). He was orphaned early. To survive, he started working as a shepherd. One day he did not keep track of the herd, and a cow and a calf strayed from him. Upon learning about this, the owner of the herd beat the little shepherd. After enduring all the beatings, John began to pray. He prayed so hard that the missing animals were found. Taking the calf in his arms, the boy carried it along the river as if on land, and returned it to its owner. He was generously rewarded for the return of the animals.
After this incident, John did not want to work as a shepherd anymore. He decided to enter a monastery and take vows. After becoming a novice, he learned to read, write and began to study spiritual literature. After being ordained a monk, he settled in the forest and began to lead a hermit lifestyle. One day his hut was attacked by robbers, and John changed it to a cave, where he lived in prayer and fasting for 12 years.
